Today was a big day for Garrett. When I arrived this morning there was talk of “extubating”. I was VERY SURPRISED. This was the first I had heard of it and by noon it was done. Garrett is now OFF THE VENTILATOR! YEAH GARRETT! It all happened very quickly. The docs decided it was time and it was over and done with within the hour. Garrett has found a whole new world being free from that tube. They took out his feeding tube for the event and put the other tube back down his throat, but it is just for suction and will most likely come back out later this afternoon/or evening when the feeding tube is replaced.
Garrett can now cry like a real baby. He is hoarse from having tubes down his throat since birth, but I am sure in time he will heal up those vocal cords. He has already been trying to give them a workout today. His vital signs have been A+++++ since coming off the vent. I am so, so happy. Today’s events do help make up for yesterday, which was VERY rough.
Last pics with all the tubes!
If I never see all those tubes again it would be too soon!
Respitory arrives to start the process.
Here we go! Tubes pulled out and nasal cannula's on!
"I'm not sure about all of this, but I think I like it!"
A whole new world without a ventilator!!!
One word: YAY!

ReplyDeleteSo very happy with the latest progress report!! Way to go Garrett!
ReplyDeleteThe weather for the MS walk today was sketchy during the week but it turned out absolutely perfect. Your news was better. Garrett's pictures show he is interested in what is happening around him. And hearing him cry must be great. Unless of course you're on a long flight in which case the crying might get on your nerves, but none the less all good signs.
