Honey Bear

Taking the lead from the Fetal Care Institute, instead of doing a transport blanket we did a ‘transport bear’.  I let Grant pick out a bear, that he named “Honey Bear”, to travel with Garrett and stay with him in the NICU.  Directly after delivery I held the bear to my chest.  Women release pheromones directly following delivery.  The point of doing this is so the scent lingers on the bear and will stay with the baby while he is away from his mother.

Honey Bear now lives with Garrett in his isolette.

  1. Janna and Paul,

Just wanted to let you know that we have been through some of what you are going through. Our daughter Jessica was born with NEC and had Strep B infection. Jessica was taken away from us to NICU incubuation. We couldn't touch or hold her just watch her in her little isolated crib. Not knowing whether or not she would survive was the hardest thing in the world for us. Low and behold after a long month in NICU, Jessica came home with us, happy and healthy. Never did we lose faith, but the pain was more than anyone could explain. Please know that you are not alone, cherish every moment and live for the day that Garrett comes home! (We put a recorder in Jessica's crib that played lullabye's, along with stuffed animals like Grant, and colorful get well posters hoping it would make it easier for Jessica and truly I believe it did. To this day almost 19 years later we still have the recording of the lullabies, we listen to them now and then even though the memories are painful, but the pain goes away when we look at how far she has come. Hoping and praying that your day to bring Garrett home will come and that this will be behind you. If there is anything we could do for you and the family please let me know.

    Love,

    Your 2nd Cousin Ivy Sirt-Cvijanovic
